Kuwarta o Kahon (2026)

Installation by Anika Maculangan

Kuwarta o Kahon follows the stories of Overseas Filipino Workers from Canada, Dubai, Hong Kong, & Luxembourg as they tackle the struggles of living abroad in a foreign country, being away from family, and losing a sense of ‘home’ while they embark on a journey driven by the realities of the Philippine economy and the enduring reliance on overseas employment as a means of survival.

The work, in its title, pays homage to the Balikbayan box, a powerful symbol of Filipino migration and care, filled with goods sent across oceans as tokens of labor.

In collaboration with Gemma Pasmala, Maria Fe Pasmala Geral, Robert Quebral, Peach Quebral, Anton Nartea, Crissa De Vera, Nicca Espanol, Yasha Estrada, Gelo Hilao, Thea Manuel, and Ednaida Marie Gonzales as interviewees.
